Alderman Jay Hughes Seeking House of Representatives Seat

Oxford Alderman Jay Hughes has decided to try for a jump from city hall to the state capitol.

Ward 1 representative Hughes emailed HottyToddy.com Tuesday afternoon to announce his candidacy with the subject “It ALL starts with education!”

Since I started these email updates a couple of years ago, I have tried to avoid talking about politics as much as possible. The purpose has always been to simply keep you updated on what is going on with your city government (and an occasion inaccurate weather report), as free as possible from adjectives or opinions. However, as many of you know, the last two weeks were devastating for those of us who truly care about public education. Our elected representatives in Jackson have not only failed to fully fund education, but have now introduced a cynical “alternative” to the “Better Jobs Better Schools” amendment that so many worked so hard to achieve to give our children and teachers the very best schools possible. I cannot and will not stand for it.

For that reason, I am formally announcing that I have decided to run for the Mississippi House of Representatives, District 12. If you would like more information or Campaign Updates, please visit my webpage.
