—A recent school fundraiser at Oxford Middle School raised over $1,800 for the school’s Renaissance Program, but also left school administrators wiping pie off their faces. During the fundraiser school students bought holiday paper ornaments to give to the teacher of their choice.

“OMS teachers Wendy Raby, Michelle Rudd-Toles and Shara Minton were the three top fundraising teachers with the bonus of throwing a pie in the face of an OMS school administrator,” said OMS teacher Jill Knox, who coordinated the fundraiser and oversees the OMS Renaissance Program.

OMS Principal Jeff Clay and Assistant Principals Audra Rester and Yolanda Logan sat with patience as pies were smeared on their faces during a school assembly in the school’s gym.

“Overall, the students and teachers had fun with this fundraiser during the Christmas holidays,” said Knox. “When we returned to school after the holidays, the ‘pie in the face’ contest solidified how much fun the fundraiser was for those who participated.“

The money raised will allow the OMS Renaissance Program to promote all things related to academic achievement at OMS. The mission of the OMS Renaissance Program is to promote student achievement, teacher effectiveness, parent support and community awareness of an attitude of excellence at OMS. The program works to create and sustain an environment where academic achievement is expected, nurtured and celebrated through a program of reinforcement, recognition and rewards.
