Chad Kelly Arrives in Oxford, Rebel Career Unsure
The fight for the spot as Ole Miss’ new starting quarterback is on, and one new prospect has made it to Oxford.
According to multiple reports, Chad Kelly has made the commute from Buffalo, New York, to Oxford. Though he has arrived, he has not yet been cleared to play by coach Hugh Freeze. However, he changed his Facebook profile photo to show he wants to play for Ole Miss.
Kelly was planning to come last week immediately following seven misdemeanor charges being dropped following a bar fight in Buffalo. In exchange, Kelly must perform 50 hours of community service, and he was granted permission to perform them in Oxford.
Ole Miss has two other quarterback candidates on the roster in Ryan Buchannan and Devante Kincade, both of whom played under former quarterback Bo Wallace.
After being dismissed from the Clemson squad in 2014, Kelly performed well in one season at East Mississippi Community College, leading the team to a national championship and throwing for 3,906 yards and 47 touchdowns on the season. The nephew of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, he is expected to play for the Rebels in the 2015 season.
Freeze is in Louisville, Kentucky at the American Football Coaches Association convention this week and is expected to make a statement some time soon.
