While most of us woke up to frigid temperatures in Mississippi, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team kicked off the 2015 season Thursday in a much warmer climate at the Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational.
The Rebels played doubles against TCU and Rice, and Stefan Lindmark and Ricardo Jorge highlighted the day with a win over No. 20 ranked Nick Chappell and Will Stein of TCU in Flight 1. Several new rules have been adopted for this season, including no-ad scoring and doubles to six with a tiebreaker at 6-6. The two teams played to a tiebreaker, with Lindmark and Jorge winning it 7-6(4).
Teammates William Kallberg and Gustav Hansson also won a tight match in Flight 1, defeating Adam Gustafsson and Gustavo Gonzalez of Rice 7-6(6).
The Rebels continued play Friday with singles against Rice, followed by doubles against the Owls and FGCU.
