Lady Rebels Host Arkansas in SEC Opener Tonight
The Ole Miss Lady Rebels open up conference play tonight as they welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks into Tad Smith Coliseum. Tip off is set for 6 p.m., and the game can be seen on SECN+ online.
Ole Miss opens conference play with a 10-3 record after closing out a 79-71 overtime victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Tia Faleru lead the team in scoring with 18 points and 11 rebounds, picking up her second consecutive double-double.
With the victory, the Rebels are off to their best non-conference record since the 2011-2012 season, only two wins shy of equaling there win total of the past two seasons.
Arkansas rolls into Oxford with a 10-2 record after a 77-35 win over Grambling, which pushed the Razorbacks winning streak out to four games. This season, the Razorbacks have four players scoring double figures, led by Kelsey Brooks with 17.3 ppg, then Jessica Jackson right behind her with 14.4 a game. Teammates Jhasmin Bowen and Melissa Wolff are contributing 11.8 and 10.1 points per game, respectively. As a team, Arkansas is averaging 68.6 points per game and is pulling down 46.3 rebounds per game.Â
Two of the top SEC scorers will face off this evening on the hardwood in Arkansas’ Brooks with 17.3 ppg and Faleru from the Rebels, who is No. 2 with 16.5 ppg.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series over the Razorbacks with a 24-14 record. The last time these two squads faced off the Rebels were victorious in a 63-62 buzzer beater of the first round of the SEC tournament.
Up next for coach Matt Insell and the Rebels is a two game road trip with the Kentucky Wildcats first on deck Sunday then Ole Miss will go into Florida on Jan. 8 to take on the Gators.
