Oxford Crime Report: Monday, Dec. 22
Lawrence Young – DUI 3rd
On Sunday, December 21st 2014, officers responded to a vehicle collision on US 278. During the accident investigation the driver of one of the vehicles–Lawrence Young–was suspected of driving under the influence. After a DUI investigation it was determined that Young was driving under the influence. This was Young’s 3rd DUI offense. Young was arrested for Felony DUI 3rd 63-11-30 and his bond was set at $2,500.00.
Michael Brown – Receiving Stolen Property
On Friday, December 19th the Oxford police department arrested Michael Shane Brown, 28 years old of Grenada, Miss., for Receiving Stolen Property felony. On Tuesday, December 16, a victim reported that jewelry was stolen and Mr. Brown sold the items in Oxford. Through our investigation we found that Mr. Brown sold the stolen items at a pawn shop in Oxford, Miss. Michael Brown was arrested and given a bond of $2,500.
Aunree Dennis – Attempted Armed Robbery
On Saturday, December 22, 2014 investigators of the Oxford police department charged Mr. Aunree Dennis, 21 years old of of Oxford, Miss., with Attempted Armed Robbery. In the early hours of the morning officers responded to Hathorn Road for an ambulance assist. Officers found out the person needing ambulance assistance was the victim to an attempted armed robbery. Though the investigation the suspect was found to be Mr. Aunree Dennis. The victim caught a ride from the square and stopped at an ATM. They left there and headed to the victim’s home on Hathorn Road. At that time Dennis pulled a gun and attempted to take the victims money. A fight ensued and Dennis fled the scene. Officers were able to identify Dennis and he was later charged with Attempted Armed Robbery (97-3-79) and his bond was set at $10,000.00. Dennis is also on hold for MDOC.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: five suspicious activities, four welfare concerns, three animal assists, three disturbances, three alarms, a noise complaint, a simple assault, a trespassing, and an 911 hang-up call.
Oxford police investigated one wreck, issued 12 traffic citations, and made four arrests on the following charges: (2) shoplifting, a simple assault, and an embezzlement.
University police responded to one incident: a suspicious vehicle at Intercollegiate Athletics.
Oxford Fire Dept. responded to the following calls: a smoke detector activated by the steam in the surgical site at Baptist Memorial Hospital, and a fire alarm activated by workers building the new apartment complex behind The Links at 600 Shadow Creek Drive.
