A well-known Oxford chef, Jonathan Oliver, executive chef at the Country Club of Oxford, was brutally beaten by an unknown assailant Saturday morning some time after 1 a.m.
The assault took place in the area of the High Point Coffee, according to Oxford Police Chief Joey East.
“The young man was assaulted some time after the bars closed. He was hit in the face and knocked unconscious,” Chief East said. “Our information is that the victim was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, where it was confirmed that he suffered a broken jaw.”
Oliver was still in the hospital as of the early afternoon on Monday.
Oliver is believed to have been attacked by two men, one of whom held his shoulders while the other assailant punched him in the face. Oliver then fell and struck his head causing further physical damage.
Chief East said the OPD is looking at people of interest and checking video tapes that may be available of the incident. Anyone who knows anything about the incident should call Crimestoppers or the OPD at (662) 232-2400.
