The Shutterbugs photography club, based out of Charleston, came to Oxford for their annual Christmas holiday shooting party. Pictured are, kneeling, Jason Williams, Michael Foster, Chad Smith. Photography is a growing hobby, and a small club of professional and amateur photographers who love capturing the perfect image has grown into a statewide group of more than 100 members from Horn Lake to far south of Jackson.

Jason Williams and June Russell founded the Shutterbug photography club in June of 2013 after she hounded him to start the group for more than a year.
Williams, a professional photographer, never thought there was enough interest in his small Delta town of Charleston, but the group has exploded in the last year and a half. Williams said there are a few other professionals in the mix, but many members are just incredibly talented amateurs who have studied the art of photography.
“Throughout the year, we get together once a month to discuss techniques and styles of photography, ranging from ‘shooting on manual’ to ‘creating wet plates’ to ‘posing and portraiture,’” Williams said. “We cover anything and everything.”
Last year, the Shutterbugs decided to have a Christmas party in Oxford after one member boasted how beautiful the Square was for the holidays. They decided to return last week, meeting for dinner at McAlister’s before wandering around downtown for hours, capturing the beauty of Christmas in Oxford.
“It’s also a great time to teach any new member about how to shoot holiday lights,” Williams said.
