Twelve student members of the Oxford High School Speech and Debate Team recently spent 20 hours over a two-day period competing in the DeSoto County Invitational at Horn Lake High School.
Several OHS students advanced to semifinals or placed in their specific areas of competition. Sophomore Rebecca Grayzel-Ward and freshman Joanna Bu advanced to semifinals in varsity Public Forum debate while Luke Kelly, a freshman, and Battle Crews, a sophomore, advanced to quarterfinals in Novice Public Forum debate. Senior Jasmine Minor advanced to semifinals in varsity Lincoln Douglas debate and Lucy Hurdle, a freshman, advanced to semifinals in Extemporaneous Speaking. Grayzel-Ward also placed fourth in Impromptu Speaking.
