Local Rotary Club Supports Mississippi Gives Project
During this season of giving, Mississippi is looking to build our reputation of generosity by providing an entire 24 hours dedicated to giving back to non-profit organizations throughout the state.
Wednesday, Dec. 10, has been declared Mississippi Gives Day. The Rotary Club of Oxford is using their connections in the community to encourage friends, business associates and neighbors to support those who provide services and community program throughout our state. During this Day of Giving Mississippians can support organizations that are making a difference in their state, county and town through the website.
As one of the local participating organizations, the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council hopes that the State wide Day of Giving will bring new supporters to help the Arts council fulfill its mission.
“We have a really great thing going here,” says Stacey Sanford, Outreach and Program Coordinator for the Arts Council. “But we have plans to make it bigger. Mississippi Gives will help us connect with new supporters who recognize the value the Arts have in enriching our lives and attracting visitors to Mississippi. This program is helping us reach a new audience.”
The Arts Council currently provides more than 330 days of art every year through gallery spaces, classes, workshops, festivals and educational opportunities.
The Rotary Club of Oxford is taking the Mississippi Day of Giving as an opportunity to remind themselves and others of the hard work non profit organizations do to provide support and services to our neighbors in the community. As a service organization, they hope to inspire others to give this holiday season.
It is through these year end gifts that most organizations are able to ensure programs are sustained for the coming year. Each gift is tax deductible as Mississippi Gives is an organization launched by The Knight Foundation. The Knight Community Foundation supports programs that engage and transform communities.
