Several Continuing Education Classes Available at NMCC in Spring

The Division of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College is offering several continuing education credit classes during the spring semester. The registration form for classes is available online.
iPhone Made Easy (1.0 CEUs): Are you getting frustrated with how to use the iPhone?
This class is geared to help you figure out the things on your iPhone you didn’t even know about. The iOS 8 operating system brought a lot of nice changes that you may not be aware of.
In this class students will learn how to work with iTunes, iCloud and how it syncs with your phone. Other topics of interest that will be covered will be the standard apps, download and managing apps, taking pictures and videos and adding music.
The class will be offered on Mondays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Feb. 9 – March 2. The cost for the class is $100, and the deadline to register is Jan. 30. The class will be held in the Berry Building, Room 104 on the Senatobia campus.
Basic Computers (1.5 CEUs): This class is designed for adults who have little or no previous computer experience. General computer use and terminology will be discussed as participants learn basic skills in using Windows 7.
This class is ideal for seniors who are interested in learning how to use the computer. Topics covered in this class are: how to properly turn your computer on and off, different computer components, storage devices, properly cleaning your computer and components, how to use the mouse, how to move around in Windows, create, save and print a document.
The class will be offered on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 10 – April 7. The cost for the class is $110 and the deadline to register is Jan. 30. The class will be held in the Berry Building, Room 104 on the Senatobia campus.
Microsoft Publisher (1.5 CEUs): Publisher is a desktop publishing program that allows you to create many different types of publications. This course will teach students how to create business cards, brochures, greeting cards, flyers and more with ease. This class will also cover how to use templates that are within Publisher and Microsoft’s website.
The class will be offered on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m., Feb. 11 – April 8. The cost for the class is $110, and the deadline to register is Jan. 30. The class will be held in the Berry Building, Room 104 on the Senatobia campus.
Essentials for Your Personal Computer (1.0 CEUs): This class is geared toward those who want more information about managing their own computers using Windows’ latest operating system, how to personalize and configure Windows 7 and how to install and remove programs.
Other topics will include protecting a PC (personal computer) with Windows Security Center, setting up passwords for multiple users, saving important information onto CDs, creating back-ups, using an external hard drive and troubleshooting.
The class will be offered on Thursdays from 5:30 – 8 p.m., Feb. 12 – March 5. The cost for the class is $100 and the deadline to register is Jan. 30. The class will be held in the Berry Building, Room 104 on the Senatobia campus.
Managing Your Classroom: Tips and Tricks (ONLINE COURSE) (1.5 CEUs): Effective teachers are passionate about educating their students. This course will offer some tips and tricks that instructors can use to help settle problems or prevent them from occurring so they spend more time teaching and assessing the students as they learn.
The class will talk about taking charge of your class, encouraging students to learn and managing the classroom so there are minimum disruptions. These skills are only acquired with practice, feedback and willingness to learn from mistakes. A gathering of the minds online is always helpful with experiences in processes that work and don’t work.
The class will be offered online Feb. 23 – April 6. The cost for the class is $90 and the deadline to register is Feb. 16.
