Bulldogs Come to Oxford for 87th Battle of Golden Egg
The beautiful Grove on the Ole Miss campus will be the backdrop Saturday for the 87th renewal of the Battle of the Golden Egg between No. 4 Mississippi State and No. 19 Ole Miss.
The 2014 college football season has been a spectacular one for the Magnolia State as both teams were tied at No. 3 earlier this year and have consistently been in the Top 20.
Ole Miss started the season at a 7-0 mark before going into LSU’s Death Valley and dropping their first game of the year by 3. The next week, tragedy struck coach coach Hugh Freeze and the Rebels as wide receiver Laquon Treadwell went down with a season-ending leg injury against the Auburn Tigers. As Treadwell was going into the end zone to give his team the go ahead touchdown and the win, he fumbled the ball and broke his leg.
Mississippi State has seen its share of heartbreak this season, visiting Alabama looking to continue a prefect season, but the Crimson Tide found a way to win. Bulldogs quarterback Dak Prescott threw three interceptions in the game and could not bounce back.
Ole Miss enters the weekend trying to put the shutout by Arkansas out of their minds. Quarterback Bo Wallace injured his ankle in the game but is set to play in the Egg Bowl.
MSU rolled past Vanderbilt last week in a 51-0 victory. with a great showing from Josh Robinson and Prescott along with the Pyscho defense not allowing the ‘Dores to get in the end zone.
In this rivalry, the records and the game favorite can be thrown out the window as both teams will lay it all on the line to win. Fans will see a sure gridiron fight for 60 minutes of play.
Last season, the Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss 17-10 in the first overtime game of the series. Freeze stated earlier in the week that the Rebs know what they have to do and it want take to much to get the team up for this one.
This game can be seen on CBS at 2:30 and heard on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
