Ole Miss continued to build its softball program for the future, adding a power bat to the lineup with the addition of Georgia native Morgan Kazerooni, head coach Mike Smith announced on Monday.
Kazerooni (Kennesaw, Georgia) is the eighth announced member of the signing class, joining Kylan Becker (Miami, Florida), Megan Harris (Whitehouse, Texas), Ashton Lampton (Decatur, Mississippi), Kennedy Cline (Lumberton, Texas), Sydney McKeown (Newport Beach, California) and Soraya Shahbazian (Rancho Palas Verdes, California) in the class for the 2015-16 academic year.
“Morgan will bring a big bat with her to the program,” Smith said. “She really packs a punch and will be a presence in the middle of our lineup sooner, rather than later. She has one of those power bats that you need and will be a game changer for us as we build a balanced offensive lineup.”
A four-year letter winner at Allatoona High School under head coach Troy Pirkle, Kazerooni has been a big part of the success for her team as she has helped the squad to a pair of Elite Eight finishes in the state tournament in 2011 and 2014. The squad also claimed the Region Championship in 2012 and 2013 and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the 2012 season.
Kazerooni earned selection to the All-County team four times and is a three-time All-State selection (2012, 2013, 2014). She set the school record for walks and home runs in a career on her way to the honors as her team has advanced deep into the playoffs each season.
She is a two-time letter winner in basketball and also earned a letter in swimming and diving. Kazerooni helped lead her basketball team to a regional championship in the 2012 season.
Kazerooni plays her summer ball with the East Cobb Bullets and has experienced great success with the travel squad. She led the Bullets in home runs and batting average in the 2014 season on the way to a fifth place finish at the 16U Premier Nationals. Kazerooni also helped the Bullets to several other top finishes throughout her career, including a fifth-place finish at the 14U ASA Nationals in 2012 and a Georgia state championship, a top-14 finish at the 14U ASA Nationals and a runner-up finish in Georgia in the 2011 season, and a national runner-up finish at the 12U ASA Nationals in 2010.
The Georgia native also has been a superb academic performer, earning a place on the principal’s honor roll four consecutive years along with selection for the Honor Roll Athlete Award. She has also been a three-time selection as a scholar athlete for basketball, softball and swimming and diving.
Kazerooni also has been involved as a member of the Beta Club, the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, Relay for Life, the Key Club, the Athletic Leadership Club and Interact. She is also a member of the school orchestra and plays the cello.
Both parents were collegiate athletes, competing in swimming at the University of Wyoming.
