Rebels Host Basketball Double-Header this Evening in Tad Pad
The Ole Miss Rebel basketball teams return to the confines of Tad Smith Coliseum this evening as they both play host the Southern University Jaguars. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. for this double-header, and, as always — ladies first.
Coach Matt Insell’s squad looks to move to a 3-0 record with a win this evening. The lady Rebels are led by Tia Faleru, who became just the 26th member of Ole Miss’ 1,000-point club with 19 points against Mississippi Valley State on Sunday.
Southern enters Thursday’s game with a 1-1 record after falling to Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday in Hammond, Louisiana. The Jaguars had four players in double figures, led by Jasmine Jefferson who had a team-best 17 points. Kenedi Robinson tallied a team-best eight rebounds.
Coach Andy Kennedy’s squad looks to pick up their first win of the season at home tonight against Southern. This game and the matchup against Northern Arizona is part of the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida, deciding whether the Rebels face Creighton and Cincinnati or Middle Tennessee next week.
This past Monday, the Rebels knocked off Troy 74-64 on the road as senior Jarvis Summers led the team with 21 points and junior Stefan Moody added an additional 14 second-half points to close out the win.
The Jaguars roll into Oxford with a 1-1 record on the season after picking up a 76-65 victory on Monday night against LSU-Alexandria, but Southern did drop their season opener to Louisiana Tech 85-76 over the weekend. Southern is in the process of looking to replace five of the seven starters form a season ago, that won the SWAC regular season crown with a 15-3 mark in league play.
Southern is returning to the court senior Tre Lynch who averaged 9.5 points per game which was fourth on the team in scoring.
Ole Miss has never lost to Southern in men’s or women’s as the women hold a six to nothing advantage on the Jaguars and the men have the lone victory in the series.
Come out and support the Rebels with two victories tonight as Graham Doty will have the women’s call and David Kellum and Keith Carter will call the men’s game.
