Ole Miss Hoops Host Charleston Southern in Season Opener

Published

This evening, the Ole Miss Rebel basketball team opens their 2014-15 season against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in the Tad Smith Coliseum. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
Ole Miss returns four starters form last year’s squad in Jarvis Summers, Aaron Jones, LaDarius “Snoop” White and Sebastian Saiz. The Rebels lost Marshall Henderson to graduation, who played a huge part in the offensive output and energy from the past two seasons in a Rebel uniform.
Summers is the SEC active career leader in points (1,233), assists (370), minutes played (2,920) and wins (66). With all of this he has recently been named to the Cousy Award Watch List, which is given to the nation’s top point guard.
Coach Andy Kennedy moved passed Florida’s coach Billy Donovan and Wimp Sanderson for the third-most wins by a head coach in their first eight years in the SEC at one school with 171 wins.
Charleston Southern posted a 13-18 overall record last season and finished tied for eighth in the Big South with a 6-10 league mark. CSU finished 10th in nation a year ago, averaging 81.4 points a game. The Buccaneers return three starters off last year’ squad including a pair of preseason All-Big South selections in Saah Nimley and Arlon Harper. Nimley is the Bucs leading returning scorer at 13.3 points per game and needs just 87 assists to become the program’s all-time leader. Harper, who was second on the team in scoring a year ago at 12.6 ppg, has knocked down 145 3-pointers in his career.
The Rebels did well against the Delta State Fighting Okra with a 97-58 exhibition win, with the whole team spreading the ball around with a good array of points.
Fans can listen to the game on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
