School Kids Day for Women's Basketball Friday at Tad Pad with Morning Tip
Ole Miss coach Matt Insell and his squad open the 2014-15 women’s basketball season up on Friday morning at 11 a.m. as they play host to Grambling State, but it’s more than a typical game. This will be the University’s 12th annual School Kids game at the Tad Smith Coliseum.
Insell will be starting his second season at the helm as the head coach of the Rebels. The Rebels have won six straight season openers as they seek their seventh Friday.
The Rebels lost Valencia McFarland last year to graduation, but the team does have returning senior Tia Faleru to wear the red and blue along with junior Gracie Frizzell.
Faleru enters the season approaching the 1,000-point milestone in her career just 41 points shy of that feet. When she hits it, she will become just the 26th player in program history to reach the plateau.
The Grambling Tigers look to open this season on a more positive note then the way the team ended last season with a mark of 11-20 and 7-11 in the SWAC. The Tigers have one lone player returning in Jaylan Bodiford who saw action in 28 games with two starts averaging 2.4 points. She will return with seven new faces to play for first year head coach Nadine Domond.
Last Friday, the Rebels stormed pass Christian Brothers of Memphis in a exhibition game by the score of 111-43. Ole Miss received 25 points from freshman Toree Thompson and eight rebounds from Kelsey Briggs. Thompson led four Rebels in putting up double figure points who was joined by Tia Faleru with 14 points, Oxford native Erika Sisk Oxford native with 13 points and Briggs added an additional 12 points off the bench.
Be sure to come out and support the Rebels and Insell with a great start to this new season.
