The Ole Miss baseball team has been working hard throughout the fall season, and now its hard work will culminate in the annual Pizza Bowl. The two teams have been drafted, and now two games Friday and Saturday will determine who eats and who runs.
Game one will begin Friday at 2:45 p.m., and game two is Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Friday’s game will be nine innings, while Saturday’s game will be seven innings. The winning team will be determined by the team leading after the 16 total innings are complete.
Pitchers will be held to a three-inning max and are allowed to make only one appearance. Position players must play at least three innings and must have at least one at bat. The winning team will be rewarded with pizza, courtesy of the opposing team, while the losing team will have to run.
The Rebels were broken up into two teams: Team Weathersby and Team Trent (rosters listed below), which were drafted by senior Scott Weathersby and junior Christian Trent.
In their latest outings Friday and Saturday, the Rebels saw a mixed bag of strong performances on the mound and at the plate.
On the mound each day, pitchers were held to a 2.0-inning max, and a total of 12 pitchers finished their days without allowing an earned run.
On Friday, freshman Joe Wainhouse went 3-4 with a towering home run, the lone homer of the day. Freshman Peyton Attaway and senior Sikes Orvis also logged multi-hit days, each recording two hits.
On Saturday, sophomore catcher Henri Lartigue went 3-4 with a triple, one home run, an RBI and two runs scored. Junior catcher Holt Perdzock and junior outfielder Josh Watkins each had two hits on the day.
The two Pizza Bowl games Friday and Saturday at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field are open to the public and admission is free.
