Oxford Fire Department Gives Back to Community
The Oxford Fire Department works hard to ensure a safe city and still have the energy to give back! Here are what they’re doing for this week.
This Friday the Oxford Fire department’s station by Volta’s will be decked out for Halloween with a terrifying haunted house. The station will start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and go on until the department runs out of candy, according to D.J. Chinault, the secretary for the OFD.
The station will also be doing the Boot Fill soon, a Muscular Dytrophy Association (MDA) and Fire Dept. combined event that raises money for those afflicted with this condition.
The firefighters stand in the streets or in front of the stores with a large black firefighter boot, asking people to donate money. Cash and checks are acceptable. Keep an eye out for them around Oxford!
“They have had a short fall in our area so MDA has asked for our help in collecting money.” Chinault said, “It’s the first our fire dept. has done (this) in a long time.”
Next Monday the Fire Dept. will begin its Christmas presents for St. Jude. It will be its second year doing this charity.
“It makes one feel so good to collect and deliver these toys and such to the St. Jude Hospital,” said Chinault.
