'One Night Stand' Show Returns to Ole Miss Motel Saturday
A bizarre show will return to the halls of one of the most iconic buildings on University Avenue this weekend to take over the Ole Miss Motel rooms and transform them into art studios.
Amelia owner Erin Abbott Kirkpatrick started the show in 2007 as a way for local artists to showcase their work who maybe couldn’t find space in a typical gallery. Artists transform the rooms into empty spaces or keep the typical motel furniture and work around the natural setting.
Since its inception, many artists that have shown at The One Night Stand at The Ole Miss Motel have gone on to not only show in wonderful galleries around the country, but also gain a national following.
“I do it at the motel because it lends itself to be a great way to have a mini art crawl, and each room is the perfect size for showing a body of work,” Kirkpatrick said. “Also, I find the juxtaposition of the travel lodge style motel housing fine art to be fascinating.”
The show is 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Ole Miss Motel on University Avenue. Admission is free, and the artists will be selling their work.
“It’s a great way to support working artists, local artists, up and coming artists and also find some gems for yourself or for gifts,” Kirkpatrick said.
