Eating Oxford
Kelly English Opening Restaurant in Former 208 Spot
Oxford is speaking English very loudly this week. That’s to say we’re all talking about Kelly English, executive chef/owner of Restaurant Iris in Memphis, as well as owner of The Second Line in Memphis and executive chef of Magnolia House in Biloxi.
First of all, Ole Miss alum English will be honored tonight with an Outstanding Young Alumni Award at Ole Miss. Click here to read our Q&A with English from earlier this week. Second, just yesterday he announced that by May 2015 he’ll be opening a second location of The Second Line in Oxford in the former 208 South Lamar restaurant space.
We think perhaps he had such a good time returning to Oxford for his Big Bad Pop-Up last year it just made sense to set up a permanent outpost.
A New Orleans native before enrolling at Ole Miss, English’s Big Easy roots manifest themselves in the New Orleans-inspired cuisine of The Second Line—real New Orleans food such as roast beef poboys with an old-school Italian salad, not blackened dishes, which English classifies as “tourist” food on The Second Line website.
