Ole Miss Baseball Concludes Fourth Week of Scrimmages
The Ole Miss baseball team concluded its fourth week of fall intrasquad scrimmages Saturday. The Rebels’ pitching staff stole the show Friday, but the bats heated up Saturday to even things out for the weekend.
Of the 18 innings played Friday, Ole Miss pitchers logged 15 scoreless frames, including three scoreless innings each from juniors Mitchel Babb, Matt Denny, Sean Johnson and Drake Robison.
Sophomore Colby Bortles continued his strong play this fall with a 2-for-3 day Friday, including a two-run home run. Austin Knight also left the yard Friday.
On Saturday, home runs were hit by junior Cameron Dishon, who also logged five RBIs, senior Sikes Orvis and sophomore J.B. Woodman, who finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Orvis and freshman Kyle Watson also logged three-hit days Saturday.
On the mound, junior Christian Trent led the way with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six.
The Rebels will continue their fall season with two more scrimmages this weekend. Ole Miss will play Friday at 2:30 p.m., and again Sunday at 5:10 p.m. under the lights at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
