Prewitt, Haynes Earn Defensive Honors for A&M Performances
The Landshark defense of coach Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss is a force to be reckoned with, continuing to shut down team after team with few or often no touchdowns throughout 60 minutes.
After a stellar performance once again in College Station, Texas, against the Texas A&M Aggies, two Rebel defenders earned top honors for their performances.
Senior defensive back Cody Prewitt was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week as well as National Defensive Back of the Week. Prewitt ran an interception 75 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter in the packed Kyle Field.
Freshman Rebel Marquis Haynes was also recognized as SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, helping the defense get two sacks and force three turnovers in Texas, bringing their season total to an SEC-high 13.
The defense as a whole held the Aggies to 54 yards rushing throughout the game, which is 134 yards shy of their season average. The Landsharks also refused to let Texas A&M score in the first half, which is a first under coach Kevin Sumlin.
The undefeated Rebels return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium this weekend for a homecoming match-up against the Tennessee Volunteers. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
