Despite 16 kills and four blocks from junior Nakeyta Clair, the Ole Miss Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Arkansas in front of a nationally-televised audience on the SEC Network here Wednesday night at Barnhill Arena.
With the loss, the Rebels fell to 15-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC, with all three of their losses coming on the road. The Rebels will return home to host Mississippi State Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.
Clair will likely maintain her status as one of the SEC’s top two hitters, hitting for a .520 clip in the match. Freshman Taylor Alexander finished one shy of her career-best with eight kills and added four blocks. Sophomore Aubrey Edie, in a return to her hometown, passed out 31 assists.
After Ole Miss took an early 4-1 lead in the first set, the Razorbacks battled back and eventually went up 17-12, as head coach Steven McRoberts called his first timeout. The Rebels could not close the gap and the Razorbacks went on to win the set 25-18. The Rebels had seven errors in the set and hit just .121.
The Rebels led early in the second set 12-9, but the Razorbacks tied it up at 13. The two teams then battled back and forth to an 18-18 tie, before Arkansas used a 7-4 run to close out the set 25-22.
In set three, the Rebels once again took the early lead, 5-2, but they could not pull away. Arkansas regained the lead at 12-8. Following a timeout from Coach McRoberts, the Rebels tied it up at 13. With the se knotted at 21, the Razorbacks used a 4-0 run to close out the Rebels 25-21 and the match.
