Ole Miss, Mississippi State Tied at No. 3 in AP Poll

After a Week 6 full of upsets in college football, five of the Top 10 teams fell this weekend, leaving room for Ole Miss to move up to No. 3 in the AP Poll after the big win over Alabama.
The SEC West is considered one of the toughest divisions this season. As Saturday rolled around, there were five teams in the west that were unbeaten: Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
It had never happened until this past weekend when both SEC Magnolia state teams defeated Top 10 teams at home on the same day — and they both pulled out a win.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs started the day with a 48-31 win over No. 6 Texas A&M at Davis Wade Stadium, improving their record to 5-0 on the season with  an electric quarterback in Dak Prescott who threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more in the win.
Ole Miss was not far behind on the schedule as they welcomed the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Rebels got on the scoreboard first with a 46 yard field goal on the first drive of the game. Alabama would not answer until the 3:44 mark of the second quarter with a one-yard touchdown run from quarterback Blake Sims. Then the Tide added seven more on a fumble recovery to go up 14-3 at the half.
However, the Rebels keep playing hard against Alabama and outscored them 20-3 in the second half to win by the score of 23-17, moving coach Hugh Freeze and his team to a 5-0 record for the first time since the 1962 season.
Auburn defeated LSU at home, and Auburn only holding LSU to a total of 7 points scored, knocking the Bayou Bengals out of the Top 25. Today, there are only three undefeated teams in the conference, and two are in Mississippi.
This week’s poll is mostly dominated by the SEC, especially the West. TCU took the biggest leap in the polls, shooting from the bottom of the list to No. 9 after defeating Oklahoma 37-33. Arizona also put its name in the Top 10 after an upset win over Oregon 31-24 Thursday.
