Preserving our Past and Building for the Future
Itawamba County has a wonderful rich history and heritage. Founded in 1836 from the Mississippi Chickasaw Cession, the beautiful hills and valleys were primarily settled by hardy pioneers from the hill regions of other southern Appalachian states. This hardy independent pioneering spirit has survived for generations creating a unique place in Mississippi where a respect for the past is evident and a strong drive survives in meeting the demands of the future.
