The Ole Miss baseball coaching staff was recognized for its hard work on the recruiting trail Monday, as Collegiate Baseball tabbed the Rebels’ 2015 class No. 15 in the country.
The class, which features 18 newcomers, including a dozen freshmen and six transfers, will join 20 returners to make up the 2015 roster.
Of the 12 freshmen, there’s one catcher (Nic Perkins), five infielders (Tate Blackman, Michael Fitzsimmons, Will Golsan, Joe Wainhouse and Kyle Watson) and six pitchers (Blake Bennett, Moises Castro, Brady Feigl, Calder Mikell, John Wesley Ray and Will Stokes). One of the junior transfers is an infielder (Jack Kaiser), three are outfielders (Connor Cloyd, Matt Martin and Josh Watkins) and two are pitchers (Sean Johnson and Drake Robison).
Eleven of head coach Mike Bianco’s 14 recruiting classes at Ole Miss have been ranked in the top-20 of national rankings, including five that have placed in the top 10.
Fans will have a chance to watch the new Rebels and the returning Rebels on Friday and Saturday as the team plays its second weekend of intrasquad scrimmages. Ole Miss will play at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field on Friday at 2:45 p.m. and again Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Admission to all fall scrimmages is free.
