Ole Miss Volleyball’s Lexi Thompson Named SEC Freshman of the Week
Ole Miss volleyball is off to a great start this year, already matching its win total from last year, and freshman Lexi Thompson is a big reason why. Thompson earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after she helped pave the way for the Rebels to win their fourth straight tournament to finish the non-conference schedule at 14-0.
The freshman from Riverview, Florida had an excellent week, recording 28 kills, 11 blocks and five service aces to go along with a .329 hitting percentage. The team played as close to perfect as possible, dropping only one set in the finals against Jackson State, and swept the other three matches versus Louisiana Tech, Samford and Lamar.
Thompson becomes the third Rebel player to be honored this season. Senior Cara Fisher earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after the first week, and then junior Nakeyta Clair earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after the second week.
Ole Miss is the only remaining undefeated team in the SEC as league play begins this weekend, and one of nine remaining in the NCAA.
The Rebels will hit the road to begin conference play this Friday with a match against South Carolina in Columbia. The match versus the Gamecocks can be seen on the SEC Network. The team will conclude the trip at No. 10 Florida Sunday in Gainesville.
