Oxford Songwriter Campaigns on Kickstarter to Record Debut Album
Tad Wilkes, known to Oxford audiences as Moon Pie Curtis, has been writing and performing original music for 25 years but has never released an official record. With his new backing band, The Fixins, he aims to finally record and release an album of 10 songs and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project.
Wilkes has “a songwriting style that owes a little bit to the likes of Guy Clark and Kris Kristofferson and a whole lot to no one you’ve ever heard before,” wrote Rick Hynum in The Oxford Enterprise. “Peppered with raunchy wit and piercing self-deprecation, Curtis’s songs manage to be autobiographical and universal at the same time, filled with longing … Even the saddest and sweetest of his songs will make you guffaw when you least expect it.”
The $3,000 of funds will be used to record the songs with local musician/producer Nathan Robbins, have the material mastered, produce CDs and packaging, and put the music online for download, as well as market the album.
