Ole Miss Volleyball to Host Rebel Classic

While the football team is off this weekend, the Ole Miss Volleyball team will be in action at home again, hosting the Rebel Classic at the Gillom Sports Center Thursday-Saturday.
Off to their best start (10-0) in school history, the Rebels will face Louisiana Tech in the opener Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Rebels play Samford at 5:30 p.m. and then on Saturday, Ole Miss will play twice, first at12:30 p.m. against Lamar and then close out the tournament at 4:30 p.m. against Jackson State.
NOTING THE REBELS
• The Rebels captured the Magnolia Invitational this past weekend, defeating UAB (3-0), Mercer (3-0) and Jacksonville State (3-1) to improve to 10-0, the best start in school history.
• Junior Ty Laporte, sophomore Aubrey Edie and freshman Lexi Thompson were named to the All-Tournament Team, while Thompson earned Most Valuable Player honors. It was the third straight all-tournament team honor for Edie and the second for Laporte.
• For the weekend, Thompson tallied 28 kills, 30 digs, 5 blocks and hit .354.  She averaged 2.80 kills per set and 3.00 digs per set.  In the win over Jacksonville State, Thompson posted career-highs in kills (18) and digs (17).
• The Rebels rank first in the SEC in kills at 14.63 per set and in assists at 13.74 per set. Individually, several Rebels are in the top five in the SEC. Sophomore Aubrey Edie ranks first in assists with 12.00 per set. Junior Nakeyta Clair (3.63) and sophomore Melanie Crow (3.29) rank fifth and ninth respectively in kills per set. Senior Cara Fisher is fourth in digs per set at 4.26.

“It was another successful weekend for our team,” said head coach Steven McRoberts, referring to the Magnolia Invitational. “It was a lot of fun to finally be at home and to play in front of our fans and in front of great crowds. We are looking forward to being at home again this weekend for another competitive tournament before we get into SEC play next weekend.”
