Ole Miss to Honor Stan Sandroni at ULL Game

The Ole Miss Rebel family lost one of its all-time greats when Stan Sandroni, 64, passed away of a heart attack in Oxford late Wednesday night.

In his 26th season with the Ole Miss Radio Network, Sandroni handled the football sideline reports and Locker Room Show until his passing. In his career in Oxford, he had also announced men’s and women’s basketball games and served various other roles on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
To honor Sandroni, the Ole Miss Radio Network has decided to have a silent microphone on the sideline for Saturday’s home football game against Louisiana-Lafayette.
“Stan touched so many lives through sports and through his professional career in both radio and television,” said long-time friend Langston Rogers, who worked with Sandroni first at Delta State and then at Ole Miss. “Everybody loved Stan and just being around him made you feel good. He loved what he did and it was always evident just how much he cared about the athletes, coaches and fans of Ole Miss and Delta State. We are saddened by this sudden loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to Glenda and Christopher and their extended family.”
Sandroni has been a sales representative for WQLJ-FM 93.7 in Oxford for several years. He was also co-host of Rebel Yell Hotline with Chuck Rounsaville. Sandroni was named Mississippi Sportscaster of the Year eight times, most recently in 2008.
Before moving to Oxford, Sandroni was the play-by-play voice of Delta State University for 17 years. The Shaw, Mississippi, native was sports director at WCLD radio in Cleveland and then news and sports director of CBS affiliate WXVT-TV in Greenville.
His first cousin, Todd Sandroni, was an All-SEC free safety and Academic All-American at Ole Miss in the mid-1980s.
Sandroni is survived by his wife, the former Glenda Marascalco of Grenada, and son, Christopher, who attends Oxford High School.
At this time arrangements are pending for visitation on Sunday night. The Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Oxford.
