Great Continuing Ed Opportunities at NWCC
The Division of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College is offering several continuing education classes during the fall semester.
Participants can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by taking these classes. The registration form for classes is available online at www.northwestms.edu/CONTEDFORM. All of these classes meet on the Senatobia campus.
Microsoft Excel – Students will learn how to get around in Excel without being intimidated by the program. Some of the things that will be taught will be setting up a workbook, setting up formulas, sorting, filtering, charts, using Excel in other programs and printing. The class meets Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. from Sept. 4 – Oct. 23. The fee for the class is $95, and the class is worth 1.5 CEUs. Deadline to register is Aug. 27.
Digital Photography and Photoshop Elements 11 – In this class, students will learn how to use some of the settings on the camera and how to get pictures off the camera to send them to friends or family. The class will also cover how to take better photos and how to modify and print photos. The class meets Mondays from 6-8 p.m., Sept. 8 – Nov. 3. There is no class meeting on Oct. 13. The class fee is $110, and it is worth 1.5 CEUs. Deadline to register is Aug. 28.
Microsoft Office – Students must have basic computer skills for this class. This class will be covering the basics of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint, all of which are within Microsoft Office 2013. The class meets Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m., Sept. 9- Nov. 4. The class fee is $95, and it is worth 1.5 CEUs. Deadline to register is Aug. 28.
Motivating Students in the classroom (ONLINE class) – In this course, students will learn what teachers need to know about motivational knowledge and how it relates to the classroom. It will also cover the instructional role on dealing with issues that involve motivational concerns and exploring how motivation is important to achievement and important as an outcome. Students can get online anytime to complete the work and listen and watch videos. It will equal to two and one-half hours of work a week, but there will be a deadline to complete assignments. The class, which is worth 1.5 CEUs, will begin on Sept. 15 and run through Oct. 20. The fee for the class is $75. Deadline to register is Sept. 11.
Classroom Presentation – Effective communication is one key to success in the classroom. This course will provide both theory and practice in the art of verbal and nonverbal communication. By the end of the course, students will have learned not only the concept of effective communication, but also a way to practice it in everyday life. The class will meet on two Mondays, Sept. 15 and 22 from 5:30-8 pm. The cost for the class is $60 and it is worth .5 CEUs. Deadline to register is Sept. 8.
Nutrition Daily – This class will teach students about the nutrients your body needs and where to find them. You will learn about the appropriate amounts that a body needs in order to accomplish energy balance and weight management. Other skills that will be mastered are reading food labels, shopping smart and planning a healthy diet. The class meets on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. from Sept. 30- Oct. 8. The fee for the class is $75, and it is worth 1.0 CEUs. Deadline to register is Sept. 25.
Advanced Microsoft Excel – Students must have the basic skills in Microsoft Excel before taking this class. The class will cover creating special effects in a worksheet, documenting and protecting worksheets and workbooks, integrating applications, creating pivot table and pivot chart reports, creating hyperlinks and using collaborative tools and much more. The class will meet on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. from Oct. 30 – Dec. 4. The fee is $85, and the class is worth 1.0 CEUs. Deadline to register is Oct. 22.
CPR Heart-Saver and AED with First Aid – This course is designed for those responsible for children’s health and includes pediatric first aid, adult, child and infant CPR with mask. The class meets on two Mondays, Nov. 3 and 10, from 5:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. The cost of the course is $40, and the deadline to register is Oct. 30. The class is worth .5 CEUs.
