Rebel Basketball Wins Bahamas Exhibition Opener

Senior Jarvis Summers scored a game-high 22 points and junior college transfer Stefan Moody added 13 points and 7 boards, as Ole Miss won its Bahamas exhibition tour opener 92-81 over the Providence Storms Monday night at Sir Kendall G.L. Isaacs National Gym.
The two teams traded baskets to start the game and Ole Miss was down 4-2 until a long two-pointer from Summers sparked an 11-4 run midway through the first quarter that put the Rebels ahead for good.
“The goal of this tour is to have extra practice time, come over here and bond as a group and see how we react in game situations,” said Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy. “We were able to play a lot of guy a lot of minutes, so in those regards, mission accomplished. The game was a little sloppy. We played under FIBA rules and that caused us some problems because we were not used to it. They also came out in a zone and that surprised us at the start. We got game film on the guys, so now we go back and watch that and do it all over again Wednesday.”
All 12 Rebels played at least six minutes and 10 players played double-digit minutes led by Moody and Summers with 24 minutes each.
Ole Miss led by just two with less than four minutes remaining in the first half, but used a 10-4 run to close the half up 48-40 at intermission. Moody sparked the run with and steal and layup and closed the quarter with 6 points.
Ole Miss stretched the lead to 63-51 with four minutes and change left in the third quarter after sophomore Sebastian Saiz grabbed a loose ball and passed it ahead to Summers, who found quickly Moody for a two handed, alley-oop dunk. Summers finished with a team-high 5 assists.
Saiz finished the game with 10 points and a game-high 9 rebounds and 4 steals, while senior transfer Terence Smith added 9 points and 5 boards.
he Rebels out-rebounded the Storms 57-41 including 27-14 on the offensive glass, which resulted a 23-4 advantage in second chance points. Ole Miss also forced 17 turnovers, but the Rebels turned the ball over 21 times themselves.
The two teams played under modified international rules including four 10-minute quarters, a 30-second shot clock and international 3-point line and lane.
Ole Miss will wrap up its Bahamian exhibition tour Wednesday night against the Commonwealth Giants with an 8 p.m. CT tip.
