While the athletics calendar year has finished, the victories continue to come in, as the Ole Miss Sports Productions team won three Emmy awards on June 7 in Atlanta at the Southeast Regional Emmy Awards.
The Sports Productions team, led by Micah Ginn, Shane Sanford and Chris Sabo, won Emmys in the Daily or Weekly Program (sports) category for The Season: Ole Miss Football, in the Commercial category for their soccer piece entitled Beauty, and graduate student Will Trapp’s Moments Like This video won in the College/University Student Production category.
“We’re very excited to be honored alongside production teams from the southeast Emmy field,” said Ginn, associate athletics director for sports productions and creative services. “I’m very proud to see the hard work of our department awarded so prestigiously, but I’m equally excited about the times we’re in at Ole Miss. The quality of our work is a reflection of the quality of our student-athletes, and the competition of the teams we’re fielding here. Those successes and those triumphs of the human spirit are what we’re showcasing, and there’s a lot of that happening right now.”
Sanford, Ole Miss Sports Productions manager of creative services, agreed, speaking of the high honor the Emmy award’s name carries.
“In TV production, an Emmy Award is the pinnacle achievement we strive for each year,” Sanford said. “It’s the highest honor we could’ve received, and for us to have won multiple Emmy awards is truly humbling. Our staff works tirelessly trying to create the best product we can by creating compelling TV through the story telling of our student-athletes here at Ole Miss, and for our work to be honored by three Emmy awards, is just really exciting. We all believe in the work we produce, and these awards make all the long hours of dedication to our craft worth every second of the time it takes to put it all together.”
Sabo, Ole Miss Sports Productions producer/director, said the hard work the team put into making the latest installment of The Season was focused on the student-athletes themselves.
“We’re very proud of the show we were able to put out this past year,” Sabo said. “By putting a big emphasis on beauty and storytelling, we tried to give Rebel Nation a behind-the-scenes look, while also personalizing and humanizing the student-athletes at Ole Miss.”
Trapp’s highlights of the thrilling football victory over the then-sixth ranked LSU Tigers on a 41-yard field goal with two seconds remaining on the clock, encapsulated the entire evening, including the euphoric celebration.
“It’s an honor to win such a prestigious award, but even better to share it with my mentors at Ole Miss and the Ole Miss Rebel family,” Trapp said.
In addition to the three Emmy wins this year, the Ole Miss Sports Productions team has also won six AVA Digital Awards and two Tellys for its Year in Review and Shots of the Year videos.
