Graduation With Pride and Love for Special Students, Parents
The Scott Center graduation May 20 was a wonderful celebration of special students and loving parents.
Five special needs students, Allyson Paige Pipkin, Veleise Ecole Phillips, Jadarius Sahquille Carothers, Logan Shayne Chisholm and Grant Stanford Ruscoe, processed down the aisle at the Oxford Middle School cafeteria as their proud parents, teachers and friends snapped pictures and matched the broad smiles of the graduating Scott Center students.
After student Grant Ruscoe led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, Scott Principal Kathy Burnham Howington made a few remarks welcoming guests and giving a few personal observations about all of the graduates.
Student Logan Chisholm led the crowd in prayer, delivering a stirring convocation that was punctuated with a hearty “Amen” from appreciative onlookers.
Minnie Gate-Powell then introduced commencement speaker Dan Jones, Chancellor of the University of Mississippi. Dr. Jones thanked the Scott School students for selling his wife a beautiful plant and helping to support her great love of gardening. “It’s hard to follow a great convocation like this young man delivered,” Dr. Jone said of Logan’s introductory prayer.
Dr. Jones reminded the students that they are special in many ways and that their parents and the community love them for exactly who they are. “”We’re looking for great things from you,” the chancellor challenged the graduates.
Oxford School District Superintendent Brian Harvey presented the students with their diplomas.
