Water Interruptions Expected this Weekend in Oxford
Alderman Jay Hughes sent the following notice about water interruptions across Oxford this weekend. So, if the pipes stop dripping, it’s not the unusually cool weather, it’s just the City.
North 14th Street: Starting next week, the City will be making connections to houses to a portion of the new waterline in the street. It will disrupt water about 20 minutes to each street. Then, over the course of the summer, there will be a new main waterline along the entire North 14th Street, from North Lamar to Jefferson, to serve many areas. This is the easiest route without disturbing North Lamar – but will cause a large portion of 14th to b closed toward the end of the summer. More details will follow as plans are confirmed.
West Jackson Avenue / Highway 6: This Sunday water service in and around Highway 6 (The Links, Soleil, Thacker Heights, Garden Terrace, Meadowlawn, etc,) will be interrupted so the old water line can be transferred to the new water line that has to be relocated for the MDOT Project at Highway 6 and Jackson Avenue.
New Highway 6 / Jackson Avenue Interchange: MDOT will open bids on May 28, 2014, and award the contract for the new interchange at Jackson/Highway 6 that has been in the planning stages for 127 years. Construction should begin just in time to obstruct football traffic and school.
