No. 11 Ole Miss Closes Out Home Slate With Georgia
Ole Miss baseball closes out 2014 home baseball this weekend against the Georgia Bulldogs in a three-game series at Swayze Field.
No. 11 Ole Miss (35-14, 15-9 SEC) comes into the weekend as the SEC western division leader, one ahead of in-state rival Mississippi State.
Last weekend, the Rebels took the series from Arkansas, winning two-of-three games.
Junior Auston Bousfield leads the team with a .368 average on the year. He also is tops in the conference with 77 hits. Teammate Sikes Orvis has powered out 12 home runs this season and Will Allen has driven in 51 RBIs so far.
Georgia (24-23-1, 9-14-1 SEC) took a series from the South Carolina Gamecocks last weekend. This was the the Bulldogs’ first SEC series win over a top 10 ranked team since 2011. The Bulldogs are lead at the plate by junior third baseman Hunter Cole, who has a .326 batting average and is among the conference leaders with 14 doubles.
As a club, the Bulldogs are hitting at a .257 clip through the first 48 games of the season.
Georgia’s probable pitching rotation will look like: sophomore Ryan Lawlor, freshman Robert Tyler, and sophomore David Sosebee. While coach Mike Bianco will rely on the arms of Chris Ellis, Christian Trent and Sam Smith.
Overall, the Rebels trail the Bulldogs by one game in the series, 34-33. But, Ole Miss lost the last meeting in 2012 in Athens.
This weekend’s games can be heard on the Ole Miss Baseball Radio Network. Game times are slated for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday.
