It was a beautiful day at the Goose Creek Club today! HottyToddy.com was on hand to see what’s happening since we last reported about Oxford’s newest fitness, swimming and tennis club on Anderson Road.

Tennis lessons were in session, spirited doubles games were taking place on the club’s state-of-the-art clay courts and people were working out hard in the fully equipped fitness studio.

Beyond this busy pace, landscaping was ongoing and the finishing touches on the pool were being concluded for an anticipated May 16 pool opening.

The bar and grill should be serving up refreshments on the beautiful patio by the same date.

Got a tennis lesson scheduled? Goose Creek’s day care service is up and running.

What is Goose Creek? It’s a family-focused tennis, swim and fitness complex with something for just about everyone.
Avid tennis player? When fully developed, the $5 million dollar Goose Creek facility will offer 14 tennis courts engineered with the only clay courts north of Jackson and south of Memphis. These specially built courts are designed to ease wear and tear on the legs and joints that can occur on hard-court surfaces.
“Our courts are designed with scientifically engineered clay material, mined in the northeast, that is watered from below the surface and turns deep green because it receives the perfect amount of moisture,” explained Barney Chadwick, who is the general manager and tennis director at the club. “Tennis instruction will be offered to juniors and adult tennis players and the level of programming is entirely new to the North Mississippi market.”

Chadwick adds that clay courts are the perfect surface for veteran tennis players and youngsters learning because court speed supports longer volleys and more efficient practice sessions.
While Barney handles day-to-day management, he will be assisted in the tennis program by Bo Petro, former tennis play and current owner of Tre Amici’s Restaurant in Oxford. Barney’s intensive experience includes 13 years as general manager of the renown River Hills Club in Jackson, Miss.
If you’d rather pursue your aerobic workout in a pool, Goose Creek features a resort-style competitive heated pool with 8,000 square feet of deck space. Swim classes and competition are on the drawing board, but when the pool opens this spring, water aerobic classes and an easy-to-navigate  ”zero entry” entry will entice swimmers of every age into the water.

The patio is beautiful and restful.

So you’d rather take it easy, enjoy a meal or a cocktail and hang out by the pool. Goose Creek has you covered with patio and inside dining and a fully-stocked bar. A uniquely fabricated patio floor only adds to the feeling of casual elegance. The facility’s grill and bar will provide tasty dishes with healthy options.
The perfect work-out experience is available.

The latest aerobic machines lead to a great workout.

Inside the Goose Creek complex members will find a 4,000-square-foot fitness studio with state-of-the-art cardio equipment, strength stations and free weights and fully deployed wall mirrors. The adjacent all-purpose room will be a high-energy setting for fitness classes, yoga instruction and Pilates classes, while a dedicated spin room offers another calorie-burning outlet.
The clubhouse measures in at a spacious 10,000 square feet.
After a hard workout, full showers, including warm steam showers in the women’s area, refresh the body. Members can take a steam in the steam room and even lockers are innovative and easy with daily digital access.
“We feel this facility is a model for the future of sports and fitness clubs with all the social amenities and family conveniences that make this a tremendous opportunity and value for people in the Oxford area,” Barney Chadwick said. “We’re currently selling memberships and more than 200 families have already joined the Goose Creek family with a very reasonable initiation fee.”
