Wished I had known about this event. I spent many a fun summer day there and learned a great deal about Scouting and myself. This learning later played an important role in my naval career. I also am proud to say that I am the father of an Eagle Scout, who carries on our family’s Scouting tradition.

I am working on Camp Tallaha and Delta Area Council history. I would like to get in touch with interested persons and share info. One thing in particular has recently come up. I am trying to find the date and name of person who donated the land for Camp A.J. Hill and also the date of sale of that property. I have checklists of the council and camp I will share.

Camp Tallaha was such an important part of my formative years, and a lot of fun! The 1960s were the years I attended with the troop from Greenwood. Mr Zenor (sp?) and his little gizmo/coin–if you ended up with it in your pocket, you’d have to get up and sing a song during chow time. The lake, spring-fed, which was freezing cold, and was the site of the greased watermelon contest. Major Smith at the shooting range, and his being super strict, but all was still well and fun shooting those .22 rifles. Walking up and down “suicide hill”, working on a leather mocassin project, those lanyards which some kids would do amazing and creative things with. The pioneer camp. What I enjoyed the most was the bonfires each night, where we would put on skits , sing songs, and watch the older boys/staff members dance like Indians around the fire, while my eyelids drew heavy and ready for bed at the end of an event-filled day.
