Special Motivational: How Caroline found Paradise
This is a special newsletter other than my regular Tuesday one. This one is for anyone that has children that love sports, or knows someone with kids that love sports, and that may one day want to play their sport in college on scholarship.
As many of you know, I have a son who was a college cross country runner. My oldest daughter will be a college swimmer starting this fall at a New York state University. My youngest daughter plays for Skylar Diggins Elite Travel team in basketball and is gung ho about playing that sport in college one day.
I recently spent extensive time with Jeff and Patty Buhr, parents of Caroline Buhr. Caroline recently earned a full athletic scholarship to be a student-athlete at the University of San Diego. The scholarship will be for well over $200,000.
Her Dad, Jeff Buhr, is Sr. Vice President at First Source Bank. Her Mom, Patty, is a Senior Manager at Crowe Horwath Accounting and Consulting. Like many of you, they are in professions other than sports and found themselves having to learn about the recruiting process.
This is an amazing story of how their daughter (#24 above) was recruited heavily, then had a serious knee injury, and then ended up with a scholarship to a dream school. So many people in corporate America have kids that do travel sports but are not sure how to help their kids connect with scholarships at the next level. This will give you view from two parents that went through it for four years and have a great deal of insight!
You will learn a great deal about the realities of recruiting and about how to go about the process.
