The Ole Miss Rebel baseball team plays back-to-back midweek games this week. The action starts tonight, as the team travels up interstate-55 to take on the Memphis Tigers at Autozone Park. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
The Rebels enter the week with a record of 25-8 and are ranked as high as No. 13 in the nation according to the coaches poll. This past week, Ole Miss won all four games they played, including a big SEC series sweep over conference foe Auburn.
Senior, Austin Anderson hit a game-winning three-run bomb in the bottom of the 13th inning Friday night over the Tigers. It was his fourth home run of the year. Anderson is now tied for fifth in the league in hits with 44.
Memphis (18-14) comes into the game after dropping a series to the Louisville Cardinals over the weekend. The Tigers are led at the plate by Ethan Gross who is hitting at a .308 clip, while his teammate Tucker Tubbs leads in power production with three home runs and 27 RBI.
As a club, Memphis’ batting average is .257, with 11 home runs and 149 RBI thus far on the season.
The probable pitching matchup for tonight’s game will match two southpaws in Ole Miss’s senior, Jeremy Massie and Memphis freshman, Ryan Garner.
The Rebels have faced the Tigers 140 times in this storied diamond matchup. Ole Miss holds a 89-51 advantage in the series. In the first meeting this season, Memphis won by the score of 4-1.
