Jammin’ for the Planet—Ole Miss Students Host Concert for Green Fund

“You learn about the environment, you enjoy a beer, you get to hear some good music, and it’s all for a good cause and a good price,” said Ryan Grover, coordinator of the Student’s for a Green Campus fundraiser Jammin’ for the Planet.
jamminThe SGC will be hosting Jammin’ for the Planet at Proud Larry’s on April 3, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to raise money for Ole Miss’s Green Fund. The artist lineup includes Christian Stringer, Buki, The Red Thangs, and DJ War Machine.
“Students for a Green Campus is a really important group to me, and by doing this we can get a lot of locals and students involved with us and try to be part of the community,” Grover said of the event.

In addition to musical performances, Jammin’ for the Planet centers on educating attendees about the importance of living green.
“Usually in between singers or in between certain songs we let one of our members speak about the importance of sustainability and what SGC is about,” Grover said. “We do that to try to incorporate the purpose with the music.
Jammin’ for the Planet attendees will also have opportunities to learn about sustainability as a concept, as well as efforts being made on the Ole Miss campus at various tables set up around the venue.
According to Grover, it is important for students and community members to support clubs like SGC, whether or not they are directly involved in them.

“Sustainable living just makes sense,” Grover said. “We’re on a really unsustainable track right now as far as the world is going, and the more that people know about sustainability, the closer we can get to being on track for the future.”
SGC has been bringing the community together for a night of music and education every semester for the past three years. Each Jammin’ for the Planet event brings out more than 200 people and raises roughly $500 for the university’s Green Fund.
Tickets can be purchased in advance from SGC members for $5 or at the door for $7.
