Oxford Weddings are always Red and Blue affairs

Published

on

Well, it’s officially wedding season in Mississippi. I’m about 30 days away from my own, in fact. So, I asked our loyal Facebook friends to share their Ole Miss-themed wedding details and we received a great response! The photos below were sent by our lovely, married followers!
According to Ferriday McClatchy, owner of Ferriday Events and local wedding planner, nearly all of the weddings she coordinates in Oxford incorporate Ole Miss (or another collegiate team) in some form or fashion. She said it’s usually the groom’s cake, but sometimes people want to leave to pom poms or something similar.
She also pointed out to me that wedding season in Oxford generally runs from March until early-July due to the insanity football season, specifically home-game weekends. Because, really, where would any guests stay? Hotels book up months in advance of the season start.
Don’t think I’m not going to be part of this statistic. I was born and raised in Oxford and graduated from Ole Miss, but my fiance grew up watching Auburn football. His groom’s cake will feature both teams (as I am trying to convert him to the side of good). However, I did goof and pick the only football gameday in the spring to get married. Stay tuned for pictures of that in mid-April!
Hotty Toddy, y’all!

Shakers for when the couple leaves is such a great idea!

The groom tossed an Ole Miss garter wrapped around a football. This guy must be looking for good luck with the ladies and for the Rebels next fall!

Sweetheart, we do not call them shakers… That’s an Auburn thing. They are pom poms.
