The No. 32 ranked Ole Miss women’s tennis team opens up Southeastern Conference play this weekend on the road against No. 23 Auburn and No. 10 Alabama.
The Rebels will take on Auburn Friday at 2pm at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. On Sunday, the Rebels will play Alabama at 1 pm at the Varsity Tennis Center. Both teams are currently undefeated on their home courts this season.
Ole Miss is coming off a pair of wins this past weekend against Lipscomb and Memphis at home. The win against Memphis marked head coach Mark Beyers’ 200th career victory.
Senior Caroline Rohde-Moe and sophomore Mai El Kamash are undefeated in dual matches at 4-0 while the Rebels have won the doubles point in five of their six matches.   In fact, the Rebels will head in into this weekend’s matches 13-3 at all three spots in doubles and 20-4 at the top four positions in singles.
Auburn enters Friday’s match at 10-2. They are coming off a third-place finish at the Blue/Gray Championships last weekend.  The Tigers are led by Pleun Burgmans, who is ranked No. 29 with a 13-8 overall record.
Alabama comes into the weekend at 8-2 after winning all three matches last weekend to capture the Blue/Gray Championships.  They are led by senior Mary Anne Daines, who was named the SEC Player of the Week.
“It’s going to be a tough match, 4-3 either way, we know to expect that,” head coach Mark Beyers said.  “It’s probably going to come down to somebody winning a tiebreaker or somebody coming back from a set down.  As long as we’re prepared to put in the work, we’ve got the talent level to get four points against those teams.   It’s just a matter of executing and winning the close sets.”
This marks the third year in a row for the Rebels to kick off SEC play against Auburn and Alabama.
