As USA Volleyball is gearing up for the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts, so are five Ole Miss players.
Melanie Crow, Ty Laporte, Cara Fisher, Nakeyta Clair, and Aubrey Edie will be among 248 athletes from 106 colleges and universities participating in tryouts, taking place Feb. 21-23 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The stakes are high, as the women compete for spots on the U.S. Women’s National Team and/or U.S. Collegiate National Teams program. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women’s National Team staff will lead the tryout process.
“It’s always great for our players to get this experience of working with the USA national team program,” head coach Steven McRoberts said.  “I know they will enjoy getting to play with and against some of the best players in the nation.  It’s opportunities like this that will help our program become better.”
Clair, a sophomore, had one of the best blocking seasons in school history, setting the Ole Miss single-season record for block assists and total blocks while freshman, Edie, had the most assists by a freshman in the SEC as well as in program history.
Selected athletes will be notified by early March. USA Volleyball will announce the selections by the end of March once all roster spots are accepted and confirmed.
