Lovepacks Thanks the Community for Oxford Restaurant Week
Dear Oxford Community,
The week of January 26-February 1 brought a collaboration of 26 local Oxford eateries and restaurant goers to participate in the inaugural year of Oxford Restaurant Week. The week celebrated the love of food and love of community.
Local Oxonians, residents, and visitors who dined at participating restaurants cast their votes for one of five local hunger non-profits to be the beneficiary of a $5,000 donation. Lovepacks is honored and humbled to be the recipient of the $5,000 donation and would like to formally thank the Oxford community, sponsors including Sysco, EatingOxford.com, Nella Oxford, and the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce.
Lovepacks is a non-profit dedicated to fighting hunger through the provision of weekend meals to children in the Oxford/Lafayette county school district. School counselors identify students in need of weekend meals, and Lovepacks are discreetly slipped into the children’s book bags on Friday afternoon.
The $5,000 Restaurant Week donation to our non-profit will be fully contributed to the continuance of alleviating hunger for Oxford/Lafayette school children. However, while the Restaurant Week contribution is monumental for our program, the truly remarkable product of Oxford Restaurant Week is the shared experience of restaurant goers who dined in the interest of community and charity.
The Lovepacks Board is blessed to live in a community where our members care for the least of our brothers and sisters. The group of non-profits, restaurants and sponsors who participated in the Restaurant Week drive illustrate the quality of individuals and organizations that are working to aid a critical problem in our community and across the globe.
Since 2010, Lovepacks has provided over 7,200 packs to children in 10 Oxford/Lafayette schools, and for the 2013-2014 school year to date (27 weeks) Lovepacks has issued over 2,000 packs. This would not be possible without the tremendous support and effort demonstrated by individuals and organizations in our community. Thank you again to all who participated, and let’s continue to fight hunger!
Sincerely,
The Lovepacks Board
