373-rob-kingWhen you think of sports coverage, ESPN is often top of mind. One of the reasons for the mega media network’s success is Rob King.
King, who recently took control of SportsCenter and ESPN’s news operations, is the keynote speaker for the Meek School of Journalism’s inaugural new media conference on March 27.  King will share insights about ESPN branding and editorial strategies across multiple platforms.
“Ole Miss New Media EXPAND YOUR BRAND,” an intensive one-day conference for journalists, marketers, business owners and anyone else who wants grow their business through the power of multimedia.  Co-organizer Susan O’Keefe says the conference may be particularly useful for someone who wants to get better at using social media.
“Social media touches everyone, the consumer, the producer, the small business owner — everyone.  This is a conference delivering information from experienced individuals, experts at the top of their fields.  It’s a unique opportunity for Mississippians to get in the game or stay ahead of the game as far as social media is concerned,” said O’Keefe.
The day will also feature workshops on search engine optimization, the role of design in banding and strategic planning for media organizations.  Scott Fiene, who directs the undergraduate integrated marketing communications program at  the Meek School says it’s also a way for faculty to build some connections across the region.
“We need to reach beyond teaching students.  We have great talent and expertise within the school, and we can help the community and businesses in the state or the region expand their brand through new media as well,” said Fiene.
Fiene adds that this is an opportunity for attendees to network and meet others in media and the business environment who are facing similar challenges and who are asking similar questions.
Registration is now open.   Purchase tickets by February 14 for $100 ($150 after that date).  For more information, contact Susan O’Keefe at saokeefe@olemiss.edu.
