Ole Miss Sisters Pledge Sorority Over Two Decades
Being an Ole Miss Rebel is often a family affair. Love for the University spans generations and the Permenter family is no different.
These are the Permenter sisters: Amy, Suzanne, Frances, and Walterine. All four attended the University of Mississippi between 1959 and 1974 without a break and all four pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma. Two were cheerleaders, Amy and Walterine, and one, Walterine, was named Miss Ole Miss with Archie Manning as her Colonel Reb. Walterine and Frances also secured their first jobs after college as Ole Miss admissions counselors.
Not only did these four sister leave their mark on Ole Miss as students, but they’ve also paved the way for future generations of Permenter Rebels. Amy’s youngest son, Suzanne’s son and daughter, and Walterine’s three sons are all Ole Miss graduates. In fact, Walterine’s youngest son graduated this past May and was inducted into the Student Hall of Fame.
Pictured below are the Permenter sisters: Amy McMahan, Suzanne Hickox, Frances Smith, and Walterine Odom.
