Lady Rebels Extend Winning Streak With Victory Over South Alabama
The Ole Miss women’s basketball team entered the night on a six game winning streak. Last night they extended that to seven as the Lady Rebels took down the South Alabama Jaguars 72-56 in Mobile.
The season probably didn’t get off to the start new Ole Miss head coach Matt Insell wanted. The Rebels won their first game of the season but lost their next four games. After the loss to Washington State, Ole Miss came back home and began their current winning streak.
Last night in Mobile the Lady Rebels were lead by Forward Tia Faleru. Faleru finished the night with a double-double, leading the team in scoring with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Valencia McFarland had a solid night with 14 points and four assists.
The Jaguars weren’t without playmakers of their own. They had three different players that finished with double digits in points scored. Guard Colby Davis lead them in scoring with 17 points. It wasn’t enough to pull out the victory though.
The loss drops the Jaguars to 2-7 and ends their two game winning streak. South Alabama began the season on a six game losing streak but has shown improvement the last few games. The road doesn’t get easier for them though. On Friday they travel to take on ACC opponent Wake Forrest.
The Lady Rebels’ victory improves their record to 8-4 and gives them the momentum of a seven game winning streak going into their big matchup in Waco, Texas against the ninth ranked Baylor Bears Wednesday night. If Ole Miss wants to pull of the upset they will need to continue playing at a high level like they have the last few weeks.
The Baylor game will tip-off at 6 p.m. Central Standard Time.
