Ole Miss Announces 2013-14 Track & Field Schedule
OXFORD, Miss. – Highlighted by trips to some of the elite meets in the country and three exciting outdoor home events, Ole Miss Track & Field released its 2013-14 schedule on Friday.
“Our goal as a program is to keep getting better each year as we pursue excellence here at Ole Miss,” said second-year head coach Brian O’Neal. “The quality of competition throughout the indoor and outdoor schedule will help us improve and reach our goals of being a nationally ranked team.”
The Rebels are coming off a program-best eighth-place men’s finish at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Returning men’s All-Americans include 2013 NCAA pole vault champion Sam Kendricks, six-time SEC champion high jumper Ricky Robertson and four-time All-American sprinter Mike Granger. For the women, sprinter Asia Cooper and multi-eventers Fabia McDonald and Mary Ashton Nall are returning All-Americans.
Ole Miss begins the indoor season with a tune-up meet at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker on Dec. 6 in Birmingham, Ala. The full indoor season gets underway on Jan. 10 with the second of three straight meets at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The indoor schedule is highlighted by nationally elite meets such as the Armory Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 7-8 in New York City) and the Don Kirby Elite Invitational (Feb. 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.).
Texas A&M will host the 2014 SEC Indoor Championships Feb. 27-March 1 in College Station, while the NCAA Championships will be held in Albuquerque March 14-15.
The Rebels will kick off the outdoor season on March 22 when they host the Ole Miss Open at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex in the first of three home events this spring.
Other home meets are the Ole Miss Invitational on April 5 and the Ole Miss Duals meet on April 26that will feature a head-to-head matchup between the men from Ole Miss and Ohio State. All home meets are free to the public.
The Rebels will also participate in two of the nation’s prolific track meets – the Texas Relays (March 26-29) and the Mt. SAC Relays (April 17-19).
The SEC Outdoor Championships will be held May 15-18 in Lexington, Ky., followed by the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. Ole Miss athletes who qualify at the East Preliminary will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, held in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
