Ole Miss Basketball Season Opener
Rebels set to host Troy
The Ole Miss basketball team opens their 2013-14 season on Friday at 7:30 p.m., as they host the Troy Trojans at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Two full-time starters return to the court for the Rebels from last season’s SEC Championship squad in Marshall Henderson and Jarvis Summers, who combined have started a total of 64 games.
Aaron Jones returns as one of the statistical leaders along with Henderson and Summers after suffering a season-ending ACL injury last year against Kentucky.
In an exhibition game last week against South Carolina-Akien, Ole Miss sophomore guard Derrick Millinghouse led the way for the Rebels with 15 points off the bench in a 75-70 victory in overtime.
The Rebels have a 78-25 record overall in season openers and have won their last nine including last season’s 93-67 victory over Mississippi Valley State.
Senior Marshall Henderson will not play in the season opener against Troy. The probable starters for the Rebels are Aaron Jones, Demarco Cox, Martavious Newby, Ladarius White and Jarvis Summers.
Head coach Andy Kennedy’s record at the helm is 152-87 through eight seasons making him the all-time winningest coach in Ole Miss history.
The Troy Trojans enter this season under their new head coach Phil Cunningham after finishing last season with a 12-21 record. Troy returns three starters from last year’s team. Senior guard William Hunter is the Trojans leading returning scorer after averaging 10.4 points per game last season.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series over Troy by sweeping the past seven matchups. The last time these two teams met back in 2010 the Rebels defeated the Trojans by a score of 84-65.
Fans that cannot make it out to the game can catch all the action of the game on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
